In entertainment industry, BLB blacklight bulbs are widely used. F40T12/BLB and F20T12/BLB are the most common type. In the past, they simply used general purpose T12 luminaires. A few bowling alleys I know use 4-lamp troffers without lens with two standard lamps for normal sessions and two BLB lamps for glow-in-the-dark and such session and they're on separate switches.
In the US, T12 is becoming almost obsolete. Special lamps like blacklight, colored, etc are exempt in EISA, however, T12 magnetic ballasts have already been outlawed and new luminaire with electronic T12 or hybrid 2xT12, 2xT8 will likely have to be special ordered at a very high cost or use generic questinable quality T8 BLB.
Currently, I see that 24" and 48" blacklight blue lamps are only available in T12 from Philips. Is there any plan on releasing colored and blacklight blue in F17 and F32 T8 so that commonly stocked general purpose T8 strip lights and troffers can be used for such applications?
F32T8/BLB is already available from some no name brands, but I'd like to see them become available from reputable manufacturer so the users won't have to use questionable quality lamps to accommodate T8 fixtures.
