I'm an electrician for a school district. There is a new trend from the teachers about "brain based learning". Basically the theory is children learn better under incandescent lights. Flourescent bulbs flicker and disturb concentration as well as give off an awful humm noise that really disturbs some children. With softer dimmer lights the children are calmer.
I say it's bologny and children sleep better in the dark, and that's why they are calmer! The new electronic ballasts with t-8 bulbs, along with the proper light spectrum are a pretty good bang for the buck. We are spending tax dollars and should be resopnsible.
Any insight of lighting research would be helpful. Hopefully with the right information we can do the right thing for the future.
