After the first few days at Rio+20 there have been a number of good 'reputational' outcomes (both from various UN entities, media and other participating stakeholders) along with the launch of the Lighting the Clean Revolution report and The Climate Group's Clean Revolution Campaign.
This is where the action is. While at a heads-of-state level little progress is made with achieving agreements based on our and next generations common interest (let alone define and take ambitious actions) it is clearer than ever that sub-National leaders at city and state level plus pro-active businesses are not going to wait for global treaties full of wooly intentions.
They have taken the leadership in what some call the Green Growth agenda, others the Clean Revolution, or just Sustainable Development. One thing is clear and agreed upon, and that is that despite the need and urgency to change the global development track towards one that is more sustainable (simply smarter and less wasteful might be easier to understand), such a track is nothing less than one big innovation agenda driving the Green Race towards the future we want as well as are in need of.
That is a future with more economical and competitive resource efficient solutions that - like LED lighting in cities - improve health & well-being through the better services they provide. Once we move away from today's doom & gloom dominated communication, to one where our communication is based on highlighting tangible benefits (safety, comfort, productivity, learning effectiveness, etc) the momentum will build.
This is what city and state leaders together wilth pro-active businesses focus on!
