Brighten up and learn more!
In the news recently (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13046121) there was an article on how new lighting in a school in Ewell in the UK has helped pupils stay more alert and therefore ultimately they get more out of their days education than before by using dynamic lighting.
This of course is no secret in the lighting industry but what is worrying is that the end user (in this case the school) has only just cottoned onto it. Schools, offices and factories can all benefit from the ‘right’ kind of artificial light to increase alertness, productivity and general well being of the staff that works there. It all happens due to how the ‘third eye’ in the brain receives light and what part of the spectrum is used and is being therefore stimulated.
Of course there is a cost to this ‘up side’ in the fact that in most cases a client will need to replace their existing lighting and therefore lay out money before any benefit will be seen. So how do we convince our clients of the potential benefits for them, and with modern technology also save them energy as part of the deal and still get them to part with their cash for the project?
Does anyone have any stories which demonstrates how a business or school benefitted from new lighting which either daylight chases, changes colour to mimic daylight and raise alertness, changes light levels to help with afternoon lulls or generally has an element of control so that the clients staff are perkier and more lively throughout their day and ultimately more productive?
What elements sold the project to the client and how have they lived with it since it's been installed?
